Doctor My Eyes -These Days by Jackson Browne

Jackson Browne was a strong influence in my life during the late 60's and early-mid 70's. When "For Everyman" was released, I felt the spiritual lyrics brought me back to a place where I sorely needed to be.

Doctor My Eyes

Doctor, my eyes have seen the years
And the slow parade of fears without crying
Now I want to understand

I have done all that I could
To see the evil and the good without hiding
You must help me if you can

Doctor, my eyes
Tell me what is wrong
Was I unwise to leave them open for so long

'Cause I have wandered through this world
And as each moment has unfurled
I've been waiting to awaken from these dreams
People go just where there will
I never noticed them until I got this feeling
That it's later than it seems

Doctor, my eyes
Tell me what you see
I hear their cries
Just say if it's too late for me

Doctor, my eyes
Cannot see the sky
Is this the prize for having learned how not to cry

THESE DAYS

Well I've been out walking
I don't do that much talking these days
These days--
These days I seem to think a lot
About the things that I forgot to do
For you
And all the times I had the chance to

And I had a lover
It's so hard to risk another these days
These days--
Now if I seem to be afraid
To live the life I have made in song
Well it's just that I've been losing so long

I'll keep on moving
Things are bound to be improving these days
These days--
These days I sit on corner stones
And count the time in quarter tones to ten, my friend
Don't confront me with my failures
I had not forgotten them

Dark World

DARK WORLD

I stepped into your darkworld
Drank from your angry cup
I walked into your blackness
Now you must give me up

No longer will I close my eyes,
to your unholy hate
I will turn and walk away
For I know you are not my fate

It's A Beautiful Day - White Bird

White Bird

White Bird
In a golden cage
On a winter's day
In the rain
White bird
In a golden cage
Alone

The leaves blow
Cross the long black road
To the darkened skies
In its rage
But the white bird
Just sits in her cage
Unknown.

White bird must fly
Or she will die

White bird
Dreams of the aspen tree
With their dying leaves
Turning gold
But the white bird
Just sits in her cage
Growing old.

White bird must fly
Or she will die
White bird must fly
Or she will die

The sunsets come
The sunsets go
The clouds Float by
And The Earth Turns slow
And the Young Birds Eyes
Do always Glow
And She must fly
She must fly
She must fly

White bird
In a golden cage
On a winter's day
In the rain
White bird
In a golden cage
Alone

White bird must fly
Or she will die
White bird must fly
Or she will die
White bird must fly
Or she will die
White bird must fly

I wore this album out and had a hard time replacing it. Great stuff!

Biography:
San Francisco psychedelic folk-rock unit It's a Beautiful Day was primarily the vehicle of virtuoso violinist David LaFlamme, born April 5, 1941 in New Britain, CT but raised in Salt Lake City, UT. After beginning his musical education at age five, LaFlamme later served as a soloist with the Utah Symphony, following an army stint by settling in the Bay Area in 1962. There he immersed himself in the local underground music scene, jamming alongside the likes of Jerry Garcia and Janis Joplin; after his short-lived Electric Chamber Orchestra splintered, LaFlamme also co-founded an early incarnation of Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks before assembling It's a Beautiful Day in mid-1967. The group -- which originally included LaFlamme's keyboardist wife Linda, vocalist Pattie Santos, guitarist Hal Wagenet, bassist Mitchell Holman, and drummer Val Fuentes -- issued its self-titled debut LP on Columbia in 1969, scoring their biggest hit with the haunting FM radio staple "White Bird." Linda LaFlamme left It's a Beautiful Day soon after, going on to form Titus' Mother; keyboardist Fred Webb signed on for the follow-up, 1970's Marrying Maiden, while Holman exited prior to 1971's Choice Quality Stuff, recorded with new guitarist Bill Gregory and bassist Tom Fowler. In 1973, ongoing disputes over royalties forced LaFlamme out of the group he created, and upon installing new violinist Greg Bloch, the remaining members issued It's a Beautiful Day...Today before dissolving in the wake of 1974's 1001 Nights. LaFlamme mounted a solo career in 1977 with White Bird, continuing his protracted legal tussle with ex-manager Matthew Katz for years to follow; sadly, Pattie Santos died in a December 14, 1989 auto accident. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide

Bob Dylan

I Shall Be Released
Bob Dylan

They say everything can be replaced
They say every distance is not near
So I remember every face
Of every man who put me here.

I see my light come shining
From the west unto the east
Any day now, any day now,
I shall be released.

They say every man needs protection
They say every man must fall
So I swear I see my reflection
Someplace so high above this wall.

I see my light come shining
from the west unto the east
Any day now, any day now,
I shall be released.

Standing next to me in this lonely crowd
Is a man who swears he's not to blame
All day long I hear him shout so loud
Crying out that he was framed.

I see my light come shining
from the west unto the east
Any day now, any day now,
I shall be released.

Fixing A Hole

Fixing a Hole

I'm fixing a hole where the rain gets in,

And stops my mind from wandering,

Where it will go

I'm filling the cracks that ran though the door,

And kept my mind from wandering, Where it will go

And it really doesn't matter if I'm wrong I'm right,

Where I belong I'm right, where I belong

See the people standing there, who disagree and never win,

And wonder why they don't get in my door

I'm painting my room in a colorful way,

And when my mind is wandering

There I will go

And it really doesn't matter if I'm wrong I'm right,

Where I belong I'm right, where I belong

Silly people run around, they worry me, and never ask me

Why they don't get past my door

I'm taking my time for a number of things,

That weren't important yesterday,

And I still go

I'm fixing a hole where the rain gets in,

And stops my mind from wandering,

Where it will go, where it will go

I'm fixing a hole where the rain gets in,

And stops my mind from wandering,

Where it will go

Fixing A Hole

Recorded at Regent Sound Studio, London, 0n February 9 & 21, 1967.The album version is mixed from take 3.Fixing A Hole, another believed to be about drugs, was really about a house that Paul bought in Scotland called High Park near the town of Campbeltown. This property, containing 400 acres had a house in very poor condition. Paul noticed the condition and a hole in the roof where the rain came in, and thus the song was conceived.

Misfits

Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, i

Pink Floyd
Learning to Fly

Misfit?

Are you a misfit
just a bit out of sync
watching from the edge
as the others skate 'round the rink

Do you recognize yourself as the odd one out
are you proud of your quirks,
is your weirdness on straight
Viva la difference is what your about

A Misfit you are
Lonesome at times and wanting to meld
Solitude you craved to write of bad days
but like a bad meal
you don't always get what you ordered.

Stranger In A Strange Land - Leon Russell

1971

Leon Russell and the Shelter People
Stranger In A Strange Land
Lyrics

How many days has it been
Since I was born
How many days until I die
Do I know any ways
That I can make you laugh
Or do I only know how to make you cry

When the baby looks around him
It's such a sight to see
He shares a simple secret
With the wise man

He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land
Tell me why
He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land

How many miles will it take
To see the sun
And how many years until it's done
Kiss my confusion away in the night
Lay by side when the morning comes

And the baby looks around him
And shares his bed of hay
With the burrow in the palace of the king

He's a stranger in a strange land
Tell me why
He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land

Well, I don't exactly know
What's going on in the world today
Don't know what there is to say
About the way the people are treating
Each other, not like brothers

Leaders take us far away from ecology
With mythology and astrology
Has got some words to say
About the way we live today
Why can't we learn to love each other
It's time to turn a new face
To the whole world wide human race

Stop the money chase
Lay back, relax
Get back on the human track
Stop racing toward oblivion
Oh, such a sad, sad state we're in
And that's a thing

Do you recognize the bells of truth
When you hear them ring
Won't you stop and listen
To the children sing
Won't you come on and sing it children

He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land

I met and kissed Mr. Russell way back in the 70's. It was a New Years Eve and I went to see Willie Nelson and Leon. When Leon was performing "Tightrope", they allowed a few girls on stage with him. I was a girl then and he gave me a big ole bushy smackeroo. What a fun time to be alive. The 70's were strange and exciting times.

ILLUSIONS

Illusions

How can I sit here pretending.

When I really want to scream.

How can I fake it.

The thought to me is obscene.

The daily act of living,

is too much sometimes to bear.

Maybe I could just smile and nod.

Let them think I care.

Make It Go Away

Return

you hoped that they would stay gone
dead eyes

instead you feel the despair return
a separation from the norm

the television is on
you see them build an extreme home
but only though a dimness

occasional squeals penetrate
and quickly dissipate
dead eyes

Comfortably Numb

ARTIST: Pink Floyd
TITLE: Comfortably Numb
Lyrics and Chords

Hello - hello - hello
Is there anybody in there
Just nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone home

/ Bm - / A - / G Em / Bm - /

Come on, now
I hear you're feeling down
Well I can ease your pain
Get you on your feet again

Relax - relax - relax
I need some information first
Just the basic facts
Can you show me where it hurts

There is no pain, you are receding
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'
When I was a child I had a fever
My hands felt just like two balloons
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain, you would not understand
This is not how I am
I have become comfortably numb
I have become comfortably numb

/ D - A - / / C - G - / / D - A - / /
/ C - G - / C - / G - / A - C9 G D /

OK - OK - OK
Just a little pinprick
There'll be no more Aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick

Can you stand up - stand up - stand up
I do believe it's working, good
That'll keep you going for the show
Come on it's time to go

There is no pain, you are receding
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown, the dream is gone
I have become comfortably numb

Nazareth-Sing Along

PLEASE DON'T JUDAS ME

Please don't Judas me
Treat me as you like to be treated
Please don't blacklist me
Leave me as you'd wish to find me
Don't analyze me, sacrifice me
Please don't judas me.

Please don't chastise me
Show me just one shred of kindness
Try to help me see
Guide me in my eyes of blindness
Don't despise me, categorize me
Please don't judas me.

No, no don't judas me
No, please don't judas me

Please don't headshrink me
Don't disguise your innuendos
Make no lies to me
I can see the way the wind blows
Don't deface me, annihilate me
Please don't judas me.

Please don't number me
Don't betray my trusted promise
Please don't anger me
I find it hard to bear no fairness
Don't frustrate me, manipulate me
Please don't judas me

No no don't judas me

Love Hurts

Love hurts, Love scars, Love wounds' and mars
Any heart not tough or strong enough
To take a lot of pain, take a lot of pain
Love is like a cloud, it holds a lot of rain
Love hurts, Ooo-oo Love hurts

I'm young, I know, But even so
I know a thing or two - I learned from you
I really learned a lot, really learned a lot
Love is like a flame It burns you when it's hot
Love hurts, Ooo-oo Love hurts

Some fools think of happiness, blissfulness, togetherness
Some fools fool themselves, I guess
They're not foolin' me
I know it isn't true I know it isn't true
Love is just a lie made to make you blue
Love hurts, Ooo-oo Love hurts

Solo

I know it isn't true I know it isn't true
Love is just a lie made to make you blue

CREEP - Sing Along

repost http://www.koreus.com/files/200408/radiohead_creep.html
Scroll down for lyrics and Marty Casey version.
I have been having trouble writing anything real and I know that that anything I could ever think has already been thought by someone else, so I will post some of my favorite songs and poems and quotes by others here until I can feel and write again.

Today I am featuring the song "Creep" by Radiohead. Recently Marty Casey offered his version on ROCKSTAR INXS.
I think Marty is a huge talent and I expect we will hear much about him in the future.
J.D. Fortune is great too.
Congratulations J. D for winning the big prize!

Go here http://rockstar.msn.com/video/performance/wk10, scroll down and click "Performances" then find the song, you will love his version. I also found this cool animation done to Radioheads acoustic version. http://www.koreus.com/files/200408/radiohead_creep.html
I will post the lyrics below so we can all sing along.

Creep
------Radiohead

When you were here before, couldn't look you in the eye
You're just like an angel, your skin makes me cry
You float like a feather
In a beautiful world
I wish I was special
You're so fuckin special

But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doin here?
I don't belong here

I don't care if it hurts, I wanna have control
I want a perfect body, I want a perfect soul
I want you to notice, when I'm not around
You're so fuckin special
I wish I was special

But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doin here?
I don't belong here, ohhhh, ohhhh

She's running out again...
She's running out, she runs, runs, runs, runs... runs...

Whatever makes you happy
Whatever you want
You're so fuckin special
I wish I was special
But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doin here?
I don't belong here
I don't belong here

Goodbye Shelley

Shelley Winters dies at 85
~ONE COOL MAMA~
Thanks Shelly
for always being you.

Actress Shelley Winters, whose long career ranged from sexpot showgirl, to serious dramatic actress, to playing Roseanne's outspoken, poker-playing grandmother on Roseanne in the 1990s, passed away today at the age of 85 of heart failure. Winters had been hospitalized in October after a heart attack. Winters won Oscars in 1959 for The Diary of Anne Frank and again in 1965 for A Patch of Blue, in which she played a hateful mother who tries to end her blind daughter's friendship with a black man, played by Sidney Poitier. Winters, a serioius actress who once said "it takes twenty years to become an actor", was a devotee of The Actors Studio.

I really loved Winters in her recurring role on Roseanne, which is still one of my favorite television shows ever. Winters and Roseanne Barr had such similar delivery styles, she was completely believable as Roseanne's grandmother. What really made Winters stand out, though, was her willingness to continually reinvent herself. She began her career as a voluptous sex kitten, but later in life when she gained weight she became the butt of many comedians' jokes.

An interesting TV tidbit about Winters that perfectly captures her personality: On the Tonight Show in 1972, she shocked viewers by heatedly arguing with Oliver Reed about his opinions on women, then storming off the set. She returned moments later and dumped a champagne bucket of ice and water on Reed's head. Reed tried to attack her, but the stage crew intervened. They should have been more worried about Winters kicking Reed's butt than the other way around. The lady didn't put up with guff from anyone.

by Kim Voynar

In the Batman Show, Ma Parker was the leader of a family gang, four boys and one girl. She loved the boys and the girl, well , she was a girl. Ma Parker was played by Shelley Winters

Almost Blue - Diana Krall

Diana Krall can calm my nerves on a crazy day. I love so much of her music, but Almost Blue is at the top of my list. Her blues and jazz are better than a Xanex. I have included a link to the video and the lyrics are below. Sing Along!

Almost Blue
Written by - Elvis Costello
From - The Girl In the Other Room

Almost blue
Almost doing things we used to do
There's a boy here and he's almost you
Almost all the things that your eyes once promised
I see in his, too
Now your eyes are red from crying
Almost blue
Flirting with this disaster became me
It named me as the fool who only aimed to be
Almost blue
It's almost touching it will almost do
There's a part of me that's always true...always
Not all good things come to an end now it is only a chosen few
I've seen such an unhappy couple
Almost me
Almost you
Almost blue

The City - Jazz

The City
Mark-Almond

Well, I slept last night in the open
Down by a redwood tree
Yes, I slept last night in the open
Just to let, just to let, just to let my soul free

I don't want to know, I don't want to go,
I don't want to go back into the city.
It's just a long long long lonely taxi ride
Going nowhere.

Well, I slept last night in the open
(It gets so hot in the city)
Down by a redwood tree
(It gets so hot in the city)
Yes, I slept last night in the open
Just to let, just to let, just to let my soul free.

I don't want to know, I don't want to go,
I don't want to go back into the city.
It's just a long long long lonely taxi ride
Going nowhere.

to hear a sample:

British session musicians Jon Mark (vocals, guitar, drums) and Johnny Almond (vocals, woodwinds, vibes, percussion) met while playing together in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and left in 1970 to form Mark-Almond, sometimes referred to as the Mark-Almond Band. Prior to his career with Mayall, Mark and Mick Jagger co-produced Marianne Faithfull's early albums, with Mark later writing material for her and touring with her. He also toured with folksinger Alun Davies, and the two formed an ill-fated band called Sweet Thursday. Almond, meanwhile, had played in Zoot Money's Big Roll Band, the Alan Price Set, and Johnny Almond's Music Machine. Both joined the Bluesbreakers in 1969 and appeared on the albums Turning Point and Empty Rooms; they left in 1970 and recruited bassist Rodger Sutton and keyboardist Tommy Eyre. The group built something of a following through touring, with their live shows often featuring lengthy instrumental jams. The group's roster grew to seven members by 1973 before disbanding that year. Mark, despite losing a finger in an accident, recorded the solo album Songs for a Friend in 1975. He and Almond reunited that year and released To the Heart in 1976; they got a deal with A&M in 1978 and released Other People's Rooms, but neither LP was successful and the duo broke up for good. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
